This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to escape to the beautiful Iberostar Paraiso Beach in Cancun, Mexico, with seven of my amazing friends, all fellow educators. It was the perfect getaway to relax and recharge after a busy school year. In this post, I'll share my first impressions of the resort, the pros and cons of the resort, key information about the amenities and services, and the fun activities we enjoyed during our stay. Join me as I relive our unforgettable girls' trip to this all-inclusive resort!
My First Impressions - A Gorgeous Mexican Resort
As soon as we arrived at Iberostar Paraiso Beach, my first thought was, "This is beautiful!" The lobby was stunning, decorated in traditional Mexican style. The open-air design, however, quickly made it clear that we were in for some intense humid air. Despite the heat, we were immediately impressed by the helpfulness of the staff. They greeted us warmly as we stepped off our transportation, guiding us seamlessly through the initial steps of check-in/dropping off our luggage. Although the check-in process took a bit longer than expected, and I felt quite hot standing in the open-air lobby, the overall experience was positive. They had refreshing fruit-infused water for us, making the entire experience better. The front desk attendant was very friendly, setting a welcoming tone for our stay.
Iberostar Paraiso Beach: Resort Activities
This resort was perfect for our girls' trip! One of my biggest tips when visiting an all-inclusive resort is to make sure you download the resort’s app! We were able to find all of the activities that we wanted to (plus a map) on the app.
After dinner on our first night, we stumbled on a beach party where we somehow got roped into playing a traditional Mexican game against a team of 5 guys, who I swear were professionals, by the Star Team! The game was physically intense, and we got our butts kicked, but we had a lot of fun! After the game, the Star Team (Iberostar’s resort activities team) put on an amazing Mayan Fire show!
The next day, we hung out by the pool, checked out the beach, and had a lot of fun together! Oh, and I learned not to skip the foam party! I don’t consider myself a “foam party” person, but this was SO much fun! The Star Team led us all in dance, singing, and games during the party.
Although we were there for a girls' trip, I couldn’t help but notice all the family activities going on around me. I know Gus would have had a lot of fun with the pottery painting, kids' camps, and kids' dance parties! We also saw a lot of high school senior trips.
This resort honestly has activities for all ages and types of vacations! Its price point makes it very enticing, too, especially if you have a large family.
Before I move on, though, I have one tip: If you want to stay at this resort with your family or kids, I recommend going to the next resort “up” from Paraiso Beach. It’s called Iberostar Lindo and includes a water park! Iberostar Complex is actually FIVE resorts in the same area, so you have many different options depending on your budget. That’s for another blog post, though!
Iberostar Paraiso Beach: The Food
The food at Iberostar Paraiso Beach was absolutely delicious and exceeded all of my expectations. My favorite was the Smokehouse restaurant, El Puerto. This restaurant is open-air, but the breeze was so nice, it wasn’t too hot! The food here is served family style, and you get a TON. My favorite item was the corn! Close behind was the Italian restaurant, which offered mouthwatering pasta and authentic Italian flavors. Honestly, since Paraiso Beach is a “budget” resort, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the food; however, it blew me away! I visited three resorts total during my 8-nights in Mexico, and Paraiso Beach ranked #2 for food for me. (This says a lot, too because the other resorts that I visited were luxury resorts, but that’s for another blog post) Truly, every meal was great, adding to the overall amazing experience of our stay.
Iberostar Paraiso Beach: Pros and Cons
Okay, I’m going to start with the cons. The biggest drawback for me was the lack of AC. Our rooms had AC, but that was about it. Many restaurants, bars, and the lobby were all open air, and it is hot (and humid) in Mexico! Honestly, though, as our vacation went on, I started getting used to the humidity, but by the end of our four nights, I was ready for some refreshing AC.
Another drawback is that this resort is very large. Everything is a walk. Our room was in a perfect location (we upgraded), so we were close to the pool and beach, but even then, we had to walk. This wouldn’t have been as big of a deal if I had brought better shoes but I had blisters by the end of our 4 nights.
One last con was the sargassum at the beach, but this is unavoidable in many resorts in the Mexican Caribbean. Thankfully, we had one day of very low sargassum, so we could actually get in the water at the beach. On the days we couldn’t get in, we enjoyed sitting by the beach and visiting the beach snack shack and bar.
There are so many pros to the resort that I don’t have time to list them all (& this blog post is getting long). The activities, the pricing, the food, the decorations, the vibe, the pool, the beach, the staff, the drinks… all amazing and completely exceeded my expectations.
Here is a short list of some other pros: 25 minutes from the airport, close to Playa Del Carmen for shopping and excursions, activities for the entire family, shopping center on sight (although pretty pricey), wildlife EVERYWHERE and amazing food.
One thing I want to point out - This resort is set up to have a more traditional Mexican style (as opposed to the modern style of a lot of resorts) but I found that to be a pro. It was clean and beautifully decorated and I loved all of the Mexican touches.
Iberostar Paraiso Beach: My Final Review
